Press Release - In Paint Dissemination Event

On 12th June 2019, in the framework of the Erasmus+project In Paint, the Dissemination Coffee Meeting around “How to boost Work Based Learning” was hosted by SMEunited in Brussels.

After a welcoming coffee, the event started with the speech by Ms Véronique Willems, SMEunited Secretary General, focused on the importance of continuously improving Vocational Education and Training (VET) and Work-based Learning (WBL) in order to attract young and qualified people in the sectors involved.
Then, Ms Patrizia Di Mauro, UNIEP Secretary General, showed the main challenges and the strategy adopted by the Association, stressing the crucial role played by the project In Paint. It aims at strengthening the cooperation between companies and VET providers, through the creation of the WBL Developer and an open access Platform to exchange tools and good practices.

The event continued with the intervention of three representatives of the European Commission about the Erasmus+ programme supporting WBL within European SMEs. Mr Norbert Schoebel (DG EMPL) talked about the Council Recommendation on a “European Framework for Quality and Effective Apprenticeships” and the European Alliance for Apprenticeships (EAfA)Ms Lara Paoletti (EACEA), provided an overview of the activities carried out by the Agency, with a particular focus on the Erasmus+ calls on VET. In conclusion,Mr Roman Horváth (DG GROW) discussed about VET and skills in the framework of the Construction 2020 initiative, especially focusing on the Construction Observatory.

Right after a Networking Coffee Break, the main outcomes of the In Paint project – the WBL Developer and the Painting/Decorating Platform – were analysed in detail. Ms Alexandra Costa Artur (Imanovation) explained the characteristics of the WBL Developer profile, a concrete solution to bridge the gap between VET institutes and Companies with the crucial role of the associations. Mr Sébastien Ackaert and Mr Anthony Thiry (from the IT company Elipsys) displayed technically the features of the In Paint Platform, a European WBL Interactive Observatory for exchanging knowledge.

The second session of the event actively involved all the participants. Three working groups discussed on the project’s results and transferability, starting from the following questions: “How would you implement the WBL Developer in your sector/professional environment?” and “How the craft sector’s attractiveness for young people can be improved?. From this exercise, actions, ideas and tools have been collected as a crucial contribution to our project and its sustainability in an EU dimension.
Mr Helmut Schulz, UNIEP President, closed the event thanking the participants, the EU Commission, SMEunited and UNIEP staff for the organisation.
